Confused at a higher level

The learning and teaching journal of a liberal arts college physicist

Hello world!

Posted by arjendu on December 2, 2007

This is a blog about my professional or at least external life.

My name is Arjendu Pattanayak. I am at the mid-career stage where there’s a bunch of things going on: I do research in theoretical physics (multiple projects with multiple collaborators), Teaching (at Carleton College), some Administration (I have just officially taken over as ‘co-director’ of something called the Carleton Interdisciplinary Science and Mathematics Initiative and serve on Carleton’s ‘Education and Curriculum Committee’ (ECC) for example), I also write a regular column and a dormant blog for a magazine called the ‘Indian American’ mostly on policy and culture issues, and teach in Carleton’s Cross-Cultural Studies program.

I think about a bunch of issues — fewer and fewer of which are in my traditional ‘comfort zone’. It gets a little confusing, and I am one of those who thinks better by writing it out. I am also lucky enough to be in a situation where I don’t have to keep my cards to myself (not my style in general, I am a great believer in transparency to the absolute extent possible) when it comes to my work projects or even my research projects or whatever.

Hence this blog.
